Non-Supervisory Training & Requirement

Employers in California will need to comply and meet the Anti-Harassment training requirements mandated by SB 1343 which was approved by Governor Brown last year in September.

The new requirement includes an employer having five or more employees shall provide at least one hour of classroom or other effective interactive training and education regarding sexual harassment to all non-supervisory employees within six months of hire. This training must be completed for non-supervisory employees by January 1, 2021 and will be due every 2 years thereafter.

The Department of Fair Employment and Housing https://www.dfeh.ca.gov/ offers a FREE one-hour webinar that satisfies the requirement. Management can instruct their employees to complete the training by following these steps:

  1. Go to the DFEH site: https://www.dfeh.ca.gov/shpt/ where the employee will choose the language category and training selection for Nonsupervisory.
  2. The training will then resume and prompt the employee to go through each slide and answer any questions to proceed through the course. Be mindful that the training module will not save progress, therefore if the employee refreshes or reloads the page, they may lose progress toward completion. At least one hour of time should be scheduled to complete this training and the employee is to be paid for the time to complete.
  3. At the end of the training, the employee will obtain a certificate of completion. The employee will be prompted to type their full name and will need to save/download and sign the certificate. The employee will need to return the signed certificate to management for tracking and file maintenance purposes.
