Employee Spotlight- Tyler Terrusa

Tyler Terrusa – HR Manager

Tyler is originally from Ventura, CA and grew up in Los Angeles. He spent time living in Joshua Tree before making San Diego home for the past 10 years. He attended SDSU, where he studied philosophy and later earned his MBA from Boston University. He has his SHRM-SCP certification, is Vice President of Workforce Readiness and a board member for SHRM San Diego. His background reflects the way he tends to approach work and life: with curiosity, practical thinking and an interest in how people, systems and ideas connect.

Professionally, Tyler’s career has been shaped by human resources, operations, healthcare, nonprofit leadership, and client service. His experience has given him the opportunity to support leaders, improve systems, navigate complex workplace issues, and help organizations create stronger, more thoughtful people practices.

As a HR Manager, he appreciates the practical, fast-moving nature of the work at FLORES and the opportunity to support businesses through real people challenges. He values being part of a team that brings technical knowledge, urgency, care, and good judgment to client service. To him, FLORES reflects a culture of problem-solving, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Outside of work, he enjoys paddleboarding, the arts, and going to concerts and live music events whenever he can. He values time with family, friends, and his dogs, and enjoys experiences that bring together good conversation, creativity, humor, and a little adventure. These relationships keep life grounded, meaningful, and fun.

A quote from Kurt Vonnegut that resonates with Tyler: “Science is magic that works.” It captures a sense of wonder while still being grounded in reality. It reflects the idea that curiosity, discovery, and practical knowledge can make the world feel both more understandable and more extraordinary.

For Tyler, accomplishment is closely tied to freedom: the freedom to use time well, to have options, to make thoughtful choices, and to build a life with room for meaning, creativity, and connection. Looking ahead, his goals are to continue contributing to the HR profession, expanding opportunity for people and organizations, and keeping work human.
