About AB 1825, AB 2053 & SB 396
AB 1825 requires that all California employers with 50 or more employees or contractors provide at least two (2) hours of interactive sexual harassment training to all supervisory* employees. As of 2015, California law requires that these classes include a component addressing AB 2053 bullying and intimidation in the workplace. It also mandates that these training classes occur every two years. As of November 2017, Senate Bill 396 requires that this training includes harassment based on gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation.
The law requires that all new managers be trained within six months of hire or promotion. Take this opportunity to send any managers and supervisors who have not yet fulfilled their requirement.
*Supervisor is defined as any individual having the authority “to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline other employees …” Managing an assistant, for example, may be enough to be a supervisor.
