Mid-Year Updates- Minimum Wage, Posters & More!
Minimum Wage Update: Effective July 1, 2024, the minimum wage is increasing in the City of LA, unincorporated communities in LA County, and select cities in California. Employers always must pay the local minimum wage in the employer’s place of business if it is higher than the state minimum wage.
Employers must post the Minimum Wage Order applicable to their workplace at a work area accessible to employees.
Northern California:
- Alameda: $17.00/hour
- Berkeley: $18.67/hour
- Emeryville: $19.36/hour
- Fremont: $17.30/hour
- Milpitas: $17.70/hour
- San Francisco: $18.67/hour
Southern California:
- Los Angeles City: $17.28/hour
- Los Angeles County (unincorporated areas only): $17.27/hour
- Malibu: $17.27/hour
- Pasadena: $17.50/hour
- Santa Monica: $17.27/hour
- West Hollywood: $19.08/hour (*only hotel employee’s increase to $19.61/hour)
Additionally, the following states will also have increases July 1, 2024:

Poster Updates: Employers are required by the US Department of Labor and also by the State of California to post Labor Posters in order to remain in compliance. The following changes have taken place that you should be aware of:
- Notice to Employees – UI, DI, PFL: Employers are required to inform employees of the Employment Development Department’s (EDD) programs, including Unemployment Insurance, State Disability Insurance and Paid Family Leave. The EDD’s Notice to Employees (DE 1857A)was just updated in May 2024. It is now in an easy-to-read format and contains new direct links for employees wishing to apply to these programs. (Note: Although it reflects a revision date of 1/22, it was added to the EDD’s website as of 5/24)

- Transgender or Gender Nonconforming Rights in the Workplace: The Civil Rights Department has now updated its poster regarding Transgender and Gender Nonconforming rights in Spanish + English.
